Week 6 - Watch Week

Ben and I both got to watch Gabi in her gymnastics class this week. She has visibly become stronger and pays much more attention to her technique. I think the class is doing her good :)

Michigan vs. IU

So David finally got Ben to a game at the "big house" for the Michigan vs. Indiana game yesterday. Michigan pulled out another victory 36-33 (wouldn't surprise me if it were courtesy of the "Wolverine" officials again though ;) haha). Ben had a good time but changed into his ND shirt the minute he got home. Thanks, Dave, for the pictures!

Elkhart Central

48-14 was the score over Elkhart Central tonight. I didn't get alot of photos because of the rain that started about 2 minutes into the game!!! YUCK! We did get videos thankfully because we brought the golf umbrellas. Tyler had a few solo tackles and of course some assists during the game. Needless to say, it was a wet game with lots of fumbles and problems with a wet ball. All in all, though, a good game for the Cavemen...next up...well...the Kingsmen. Very excited about that one.

Leigh Lynn

We met little Leigh Lynn Dickerson today and what an adorable little baby she is!!! She was born at 3:28 am this morning and was 8 lbs. 8 oz. 20 3/4 inches long. Gabi was so excited to meet her new cousin and of course, we got the picture of Tyler, but he always acts as if he will break the little ones. He did great. So happy for Jeff and Pam and Bren. It was so funny to watch the video they took of Bren meeting Leigh for the first time...his first words, "hey, where did that baby come from?"
Adorable! Congratulations to them. Love them all!

Davison, MI

Wow! What a game!!! Tyler had another GREAT game at Davison, Michigan!!!! He had MANY tackles, including a few solo open field tackles!! One was even a loss for yards while he was being held!!! He also played some full back and caught a 20 yard pass almost being a touchdown! Awesome, awesome game! Tyler's effort made the 3 hour drive worth it!
The team scored in the second quarter and Tyler went for the 2 point conversion but fell a little short. Right before halftime, Mishawaka scored again, leaving the score 6-0
Unfortunately on a kickoff return the ball was fumbled and recovered by Davison enabling them to get a touchdown in the third quarter 12-7. The last quarter was even more intense after we scored with about 5 minutes left in the game. Davison drove the football all the way down the field, to about the 30 yard line or so and our defense held them!!! So proud!! And Tyler reminded us..."defense wins games!" Very true today! Great job!!! Got some good pics too!

Sleepover

Nikki...Gabi's friend and a little sis to one of Tyler's friends who is also on the football team (did you get that???) stayed over to ride to the game with us today in Davison, MI. The girls LOVED it that they got to make their own pizza!!!! For a short time they were able to hang out last night and this morning, they have really enjoyed each other's company. Off to the game...

Davison Game Tomorrow

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up that you can listen to the Davison Game tomorrow here. Root on our Cavemen even if you can't be there! Busy day today...Gabi is having a friend stay over tonight (Nikki) - her brother plays football too so she will be riding along with us to the game. Unfortunately, things have taken a turn for the worse for my aunt Margie and we were able to visit with her tonight for a bit and Pam is headed to the hospital to have that baby girl. Trenton finished his first week off and doing well. Things kind of at a stand still for now...more to come with pictures to be posted. Looking forward to the game tomorrow, although our hearts will be here at home with so much going on.

The first thing Gabi said this morning after her braces were off..."I can have laffy taffy!! Yes!!"
What a cutie!!! Got the braces off, getting a retainer in two weeks, waiting for the remainder of her baby teeth to come out and it will be Phase 2 (full set of braces).

1st Varsity Touchdown

For Tyler that is!!! Final score for the team 29-7 against Riley. Tyler had an AWESOME AWESOME game! The first half was just out of control for him! He opened the game with an interception on the first play of the game! What a way to start and what a fire starter for the team! Tyler had many open field tackles as cornerback and was in on quite a few other tackles. Unfortunately, our starting half back got hurt so Tyler actually went in on offense as fullback. He probably had over 50 yards total including the first touchdown for the team!! Needless to say, Tyler was smiling from ear to ear the entire game! So glad that uncle Dave, grandpa, Aunt Annie, Aunt Becky, cousin David, maw maw and paw paw, uncle Chad, and Aunt Amber and kids could come and see this awesome awesome game! And Gabi even made the news this evening in the crowd! lol
In the newspaper this morning:
Reisdorf gives Cavemen boost
HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL
By LEWIS BAGLEY Tribune Staff Writer
MISHAWAKA —

It's not often a kicker steals the show in a high school football game.Especially when no last-second boot is involved.Still, Mishawaka senior Matt Reisdorf had a night he likely won't forget in helping the Cavemen score a 29-7 win over Riley at Steele Stadium Friday.Reisdorf booted a career-high three field goals — scoring the first nine points of the game — to prove coach Bart Curtis' squad has a weapon not many other teams have."It's nice to know anytime we can get inside the 25-yard-line, we'll get points," Curtis said. "Matt got down on himself last week after he missed a kick right before halftime. It was nice to see him kick three tonight." If his kicking wasn't enough, Reisdorf assisted on a touchdown-saving tackle on a Riley kickoff return in the second half. That came after he was crowned homecoming king at halftime. It's a good thing he got the night off from his other duty for the team as Mishawaka never punted. The win improved the 10th-ranked Cavemen to 4-0 and 2-0 in Northern Indiana Conference play.Reisdorf's first two kicks, a 29-yarder and a 34-yarder, came after Riley interceptions. His third kick, a 27-yarder which proved to be the game-winning points, capped an 11-play, 77-yard drive late in the second quarter."I started kicking midway through my sophomore year," the senior said, "and I've never had three in a game. I have to give credit to my holder, David Coppens, and my snapper, Jason Donahue. I'm blessed to have them."The Cavemen took a 16-0 lead into halftime after Tyler Reinoehl scored on a 6-yard run in the final two minutes.Mishawaka opened the second half with a four-and-a-half minute drive, culminating in a 43-yard pass from Cortez Lee to Justin Frazier.Gary Brooks closed the Mishawaka scoring with a 3-yard run on the second play of the fourth quarter. All told, the Cavemen came up with five interceptions and ran up 484 yards in offense. Five Mishawaka runners totaled at least 50 yards.Curtis, however, was concerned with his team's carelessness with the ball (two lost fumbles — one at the Riley goal line) and eight penalties, amounting to 60 yards."We were fortunate tonight because we took steps backward in a couple of areas," Curtis said. "We had a battle for four quarters and I credit Riley for that."The Wildcats (1-3, 0-1) moved the ball effectively for much of the evening, but couldn't overcome the mistakes. The Wildcats' only score came on a 6-yard pass from Myles Cossey to Jarred Goens with seven minutes left. Tim Buckingham led all rushers for Riley with 93 yards on 14 carries."I think their kids just made plays," Riley coach Jim Berger said. "We've improved every single week. If we had played tonight like we did our first game, Mishawaka would have beaten us, 60-0."At Steele Stadium

Homecoming Parade

My nieces and Maizy helped me cheer on the homecoming parade today. We threw Reese's to Tyler and a sweet tea to Coach Buchmann. They were both happy!!! The girls loved the parade and was even greeted by a "caveman" with candy during the parade. Lots of smiles, lots of cheers!!! Anxious for our game tonight. Nothing better than Friday Night Lights :)

Move In Day

Got to Naperville right around 9:09 am on 9/9/09 to move Trenton into his dorm. When we pulled up there was a "move in" crew all ready to help carry things up to his room. Lots of helpers and football players. Frank had some of his family also to help so we finished setting up, including putting together their bed lofts and putting together a futon by around noon or so. Alot of our help that carried up things told us that they had never seen anyone bring so much stuff. That worried me but we knew we would be able to take home anything that he didn't want or didn't need. Fortunately, we only ended up bringing home a mirror and some hangers...that's it. Worked out well. We finished up registration, put money on Trenton's laundry card, got his books (and a few other items ;) ), ate at the dining hall and then went to the Welcome Ceremony for all the freshman. There are 822 students in the class of 2013 at North Central. We listened to the President of North Central and a few other important people and learned the alma mater. It was somewhat entertaining but after working all morning, we were just whooped. We were supposed to head back to the President's house for another engagement afterwards, while the boys went to meet some of the faculty but ended up skipping out since it was after 5pm our time. We ran to KMart to pick up a few things Trenton was needing, brought them back and said our goodbyes. Some tears. Some laughter. We know we will miss Trenton dearly but look forward to him taking part in this next step in his life. Can't wait for family weekend in October!!!!

Family Pics

Took some family photos before Trenton takes off this year for college with my side of the family. So awesome that Amber's sister has started her own photography business...she does a wonderful job!!! Check out a few of the pictures here (September 8)...

Meet Chancy

...our new parakeet! Yes, Tyler and Gabi were both anxious to try and get another bird after Yoshi. Our house was just a little too quiet, believe it or not. We missed Yoshi's yacking and whistling. So, we tracked down the lady who sold us Yoshi and lo and behold, she had some parakeets just wheened and ready to go...3 months old. So, here it (not sure if it is a boy or girl yet) is...Chancy. Welcome to our crew!

Packing Has Begun...

And yes, that is a Bob Marley poster ready to go!

Tattoos

I just recently signed a consent form for Tyler to get a tattoo...something both of my boys have discussed and talked about getting for quite some time. Not sure if it's just because other people their age have them and it is just becoming more popular or if it is the thrill of doing something that you cannot normally do till you are 18 years old or if they are just fascinated by the whole artistry. Because that is what it is, really. I personally am not the least bit interested in getting a tattoo and I personally do not think it is pretty to have them all over your body. I do, however, find them interesting. Some tell a story, some have meaning to the person, some are just neat looking. Some people would also criticize me for signing for my boys to get one. We had our ground rules and that is between us and them. They respected it and we allowed them to get one. It is something they will have the rest of their lives. Who knows, someday they may end up regretting getting the tattoos, or they may not??? Who knows, time will tell. Trenton got one last year that was basically showing a bit of his rebellious side and he is one that really just chooses at the spur of the moment...reminds me of grandpa Honeycutt altogether (the tattoo and Trenton)!!!Tyler chose one that has a bit more meaning...a family crest. He actually took the time to dig deeper into our ancestry and I think he learned alot of new information in the meantime...had the tattoo artist draw up a combination of what he found...I think he did a nice job. Even the colors represent!

Anyways, read this recently as well...opinions of tattoos and how true:
A lot of people see tattoos as offensive, some see them as an expression of themselves and others just don't care. It's not your body; why not let them do what they want to theirs? They are the ones who have to live with that choice for the rest of their lives.
