Our New Baby, Gunnar

So Gunnar has been home for two days.  I have to admit we have been bad at night with him...he has been crying so Gabi and I have been taking turns getting up and holding him for a bit til he falls back asleep and we put him back in his crate.  I guess it is the thought of the poor baby being away from his siblings and a new place.  BUT, we are going to start in tonight...not gonna give in and gonna get him to sleep in a crate for a while, at least until he is completely potty trained.  And his first accident was today and it was a small error on Gabi's part and it was on the pad we use in the living room, so it made for easy clean up.  Not too shabby.  He is so young though, we knew it would be a bit hard for the little guy to go without any accidents.  Maizy is still unsure of him so we have been allowing her to do her own thing and go her own way until she is ready.  After all, she is the queen of this house so it will take some getting used to.  Gabi and I took little Gunnar to Petsmart for a collar and a tag, which the little guy does not like at all.  We got the smallest tag and it still seems big.  Such a sweet little puppy.  Everyone who sees him always wants to know the breed and color and fall in love.  Love that.  So here are some pics I have been taking these past couple days...here is Gunnar.  Born May 24, 2013.  Welcome home buddy!

Gunnar

It all started with a look at the pet store at the mall a little over a month ago.  We have been eyeing long haired dapple dachshunds for quite some time and just having fits over them at the pet store when we saw them, but $800 was just a little too steep for a dog.  I did some checking online for breeders and found Roxie's Doxies online.  I noticed she had one long haired mini dachshund for sale and was born on May 24.  That would put him at 6 weeks the weekend we went to Bloomington.  Knowing Roxie's Doxies was south, I talked to Ben.  The picture intrigued him and just a couple weeks ago, while Gabi stayed overnight with a friend, we headed to Idaville, Indiana to check this place out and see this little guy in person.  Naturally, we fell in love.

We put a deposit down and talked to Roxie.  She told us she would let him go at 6 weeks and he would be fine.  That sealed the deal.  And to top it off, Ben and I decided to make it a complete surprise for Gabi.  Roxie has been faithfully sending us updates and pics of our baby since we got in touch with her.  Believe me, it has been super hard keeping this secret!
Today was the day.  I'll just let the videos and pics tell the rest.

We have decided as a family to name him Gunnar.  And he is a super cuddle bug!  So very excited this little guy is a part of our family!

Bloomington Camping Trip

Tyler had to move out of his apartment this past weekend so we had the honors of helping him do so since he was staying there this summer.  We decided to make a long holiday weekend trip of it since it was over the Fourth of July and we decided to camp!  We wanted to check out Lake Monroe Village because they actually have cabins that allow dogs, which would make it great for our entire family to be able to come visit Bloomington and not worry about dog sitters.  We were impressed with the campground!!  Tyler and Abby came as much as they could to hang out at the campground.  We arrived on Thursday, the Fourth of July around noon.  We immediately wanted to check out the walking trails.  We actually saw quite a few deer, a few mommies with their babies.  One walking trail actually took us to Lake Monroe, which was a cool sight.

We headed back to our campsite for a Fourth of July cookout after our hike
Friday morning Ben, Gabi and I decided to do some exploring outside the campground and found a pretty neat entrance to a marina on Lake Monroe where we got some good photos

We headed into town about the time Tyler was to get off work at Target and caught him cashiering
Did some packing up at Tyler's apartment and then relaxed at the campground Friday evening.  Even found the waterfall at the campground on another hike!
Saturday we got the apartment contents into storage.  I know Tyler and Matt will miss Dunnhill Apartment B20.  Good times I am sure.

We were all pretty whooped from moving but we knew Lake Monroe Park just down the road from our campground was having a big fireworks display so we headed there Saturday evening.  We were all pretty impressed with the show!
Had a great time visiting with Tyler and Abby in Bloomington!  In fact, we have already started planning another trip hopefully in the fall with more family!
For now, Tyler is staying with Abby in her apartment because of his job, but plans to move into his house for next year in a few weeks!!!  Just can't believe Tyler will be a junior!
