We had Gabi's first AYBT games this weekend so we didn't know what exactly to expect. First, I should say how EXCITED this girl is because she got her brother's number!!! Yep...another "deuces!" Our schedule was three games on Saturday and two today. We knew that the last game (today) we would not be able to make because of Tyler's Commencement but Gabi was excited about playing in four games. She was exhausted after yesterday's three!
We played the Indy Rats (mostly 6th graders) Saturday at noon. These girls were big. They were all black girls and they could certainly play ball. With only two extra players to sub in and out during the game for this first one, our girls held their own and played hard. Grandpa, Uncle Dave, Tyler and Abby all made it to watch. We lost 18-38.
Our next game was not scheduled till 6 pm that evening so we planned ahead with bathing suits and went to the pool in Plymouth. Come to find out, it was closed due to maintenance issues. Ben suggested driving 15 minutes to Potato Creek to let the girls swim and relax. We took Kara with us to grab some pizza hut and headed for the beach.
Our second game was against Knox and these girls were more Gabi's size. We were excited that my parents and Chad/Amber and kids got to come and watch. I think Gabi was thrilled to see them. She decided she would make 3 baskets during that game! A great win for us 26-2.
The next game was right at 7:00 so no rest for the weary. These girls were about the same size as our girls but more aggressive than the last team. Lady Cats ended up beating us 14-9. Gabi did make a basket though, which brightened her spirits a bit.
Needless to say, Gabi was pooped when we pulled in the driveway at 9:30 pm. We got the laundry going and got her tucked away in bed.
We had to get up early to catch our first game against Plymouth (6th graders again) at 10 am (played in Knox this time). The girls fought hard but we ended up losing 17-13.
Now we are home and getting around for the next big event...Commencement. My head is taking its time wrapping itself around Tyler graduating...I am sure it will make it there in a hurry this afternoon. Just not looking forward to the outcome when it becomes realization. Very bittersweet.
