More Christmas Traditions

Not much left to do...I think Tyler and Ben still need to write their "special letter" to go with their "special gift," but other than that and some cooking, etc., the shopping and wrapping is done. We will open our "special gifts" on Christmas Eve day (tomorrow!!). In case you missed my blog on that one...around Oct/Nov our we draw names. This year Tyler got Gabi, Gabi got Tyler, I got Ben, Trenton got me, and Ben got Trenton. I have taught the kids to listen to one another through the year for something "special" they could use or would want-to really use some thought into this gift...take the time to watch and listen each one of our family and then when we draw names we will know what to get our "special" person this year. Along with the gift we write a short note talking about how that person impacted us this year and how they are special to us. This is a tradition we have carried on for quite some time...I think maybe 6 years now. Lots of love and laughter and tears all at the same time. It's a good time for our family.

I was also reminded by my sister in law (Pam) of a tradition that was carried on into our family from Ben's family while he was young. Before opening gifts on Christmas morning Ben will read the Christmas story from the Bible to remind us of the ultimate gift - Jesus. It is a good reminder of what is really important...If you are interested here are the verses...Matthew 1:18-25 and Luke 2:1-14. Happy Birthday Jesus!
