DeKalb

Tyler's first JV game was last night...all the way in Waterloo (about an hour and half away)! We won with a score of 32-12 and Tyler played almost the entire game. His positions were starting cornerback and starting halfback. Tyler had a total of about 30 yards for the game and was in on many tackles along with a few solo tackles. Tyler also played second string quarterback for the last few minutes of the game. Tyler also made some great blocks and is on every special team. Not too shabby for it being the first JV game. We got to use our new video camera, really test it out and it worked well for us. I think we made a good purchase : )
Since the game was so far, Tyler didn't home and in bed till almost midnight! Needless to say, he was slow this morning. Below...photos of Tyler in action. Clockwise...Tyler on kickoff team, Tyler making a block, Tyler running the ball, Tyler making a tackle and Tyler handing the ball off

#22

I might have failed to mention Tyler got #22 again!! He has had that number since his days in Rocket Football with the Cowboys! Tyler was excited to have his number. ; )

First Varsity Game

Tyler got to dress for the varsity game last night and made it in for a play or two for the Cavemen. They won against Dekalb 29-15 - a great start!!! That has to be exciting for Tyler...his first Friday night football game!!! Looking forward to seeing him do his stuff at the JV game on Monday night against Dekalb.

Jenny

Wanted to wish my sis-in-law, Jenny, in Keller, Texas - A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY! May your day be carefree and wonderful. We love you and can't wait till the next time you come home!!! Trenton got to see her in Oklahoma City, as she and the kids ventured up from her house to watch Trenton (I must say I was very jealous too) at Junior National Team Duals and I heard they had a nice visit. So glad Jenny got to watch and support him. Anyways, enjoy your day, Jenny!!!

Fort

Since this past weekend Gabi has enjoyed making a fort from several different blankets around the house. Since she "attaches it to her bed, she has to take it down each night, but Gabi doesn't mind at all. She uses it to lay down and read, etc. She even has a secret password that she has happily shared with her momma (and I can't tell)! I have only visited the fort once but am looking forward to visiting again ; )Gabi has also learned that her baby hamster likes to exercise at night. We purchased Bubbles a new home, complete with a wheel for her to run on. Needless to say, Bubbles has been very noisy at night, in fact...all night {yawn}!

Video Camera

We have been discussing our next purchase for a while now...a new video camera. I have been using my parents' old video camera that records to 35 mm tapes. The battery has been acting up lately and this particular camera doesn't have an outlet to plug into the computer for transferring files. Also, since I have a "dinosaur" for a computer, my brother has been helping me by transferring the files from his camera to the computer and allowing me to use his software to do the finalized DVDs for the kids. Well, Chad recently sold his video camera and purchased a new hard drive camera. Sooooo, this kind of put a glitch in our editing and just gave us that extra push to get a new camera. Because I am somewhat tired of so many steps - going from camera to computer to DVD, I looked into a video camera similar to my parents' camera now. Decided on a DVD video camera...did some research and looked at reviews...decided on this one. Got it yesterday and learning the ins and outs, but I think we will be happy with it. From now on, our videos can go from video camera to tv. I like that idea!

Scrimmage

Last night was Tyler's first scrimmage against Concord. It was JV/Varsity mixed but Tyler played mostly JV. He was jack of all trades last night as he played a little of cornerback, halfback and quarterback. The team didn't do too bad, considering Concord got beat at semistate last year (I think) so they had a decent team this year. I thought the JV looked pretty good but I was confused a little when it came to the way we play. We have a new coach this year and he likes to run the option, which can be confusing for me. Anyways, very proud of Tyler. He came home tired and hungry : ) Looking forward to fall and another season of football!

Summer Olympics

I don't know what it is...maybe it's because I know first hand, watching my boys and their passions for the sports they participate in, the hard work, the sadness in their losses, the dedication it takes to win. Maybe it's watching behind the scenes...the athletes and their parents and families. Or maybe it's just pride in my country. Whatever it may be, I have certainly become addicted to the Summer Olympics and I love rooting for the USA. In particular, I have enjoyed watching swimming...who can't love Michael Phelps and watching his mom and sisters? Gymnastics has been fun to watch...the mistakes and comebacks of the young women who participate. I also like watching beach volleyball and wrestling. I tried watching some of the Winter Olympics a couple of years ago and just found myself mad that it preempted other shows. Not this time. I am enjoying every minute! Go USA!

First Day of School

Yes, the first day of school has arrived. Mixed emotions...a little bit of relief, a little bit of hesitation, a little bit of happiness, a little bit of sadness - all combined. I think the kids were ready to go back. Trenton has been extremely tired from work (starting at 5:45 am and getting finished at 2 pm) and of course, his continual wrestling and lifting workouts, Tyler has run out of "creative" things to do without getting into trouble and has been sleeping in entirely waaaay too long in the mornings, and Gabi has been saying the word "bored" too much lately.
It was time.
I started their day off with a french toast breakfast and in the middle of pouring the orange juice I suddenly got one of those moments that just hit you upside the head...
this is Trenton's SENIOR year.
How did these years go by so quickly? Where has the time gone?

Pictures

My dad needed a photo of the entire family for work, so we decided since we had already planned a birthday lunch for him, that Sunday would be a good day. We chose Battell Park right before going to eat and Chad gladly obliged as the cameraman (since he recently got a new camera). I had asked Chad if he could take some pictures of Trenton as well. You see, Trenton just went to Root for his Senior Photo Shoot a couple of weeks ago and I just got to see them online. I also saw the prices. I had originally thought that I should just stick with a Studio because Trenton isn't one who likes to smile or pose for personal pictures but I thought, to spare some money, and with the camera that Chad has, why not try. Well, it worked out. I think Chad got some GREAT pictures and I can't wait to put them together and get them printed. And I am sure at a fraction of the cost it would have been! Thanks, Chad!!! Maybe you should go into business!!! Check out some of our photos we took...

White Russian

We took little Bubbles to Petsmart today. Our main goal...to find out if it was a boy or a girl. And our goal was achieved...a little girl. Gabi was so excited. Since we had such a knowledgeable assistant that helped us, he let us in on the kind of hamster she is...a White Russian, he believed. He shared with us that White Russian hamsters are brown during the summer months and turn white during the winter months (because the daylight hours are shorter). Very interesting and this made Gabi's day as well. So much information for her to tell everyone and she can hardly wait to see her change color! Anyways, we went away with a new cage for our little hamster. I think Bubbles is very pleased with her new home.

Vacation 2008

So this week we headed out on vacation. Not so much an adventurous vacation, but more like a relaxing and fun vacation...mostly about water and sun. Last year we spent our vacation at the campground and we were able to take the fishing boat and we pulled the kids on the tube. They absolutely loved this so I decided, since all the kids LOVE the water, why not try to find a lake house and spend the week on the lake. I knew we would have to find somewhere to accomodate Maizy since my parents and Chad/his family were on vacation the same time. I figured it wouldn't hurt either, if we were able to be right on the lake. I probably started the hunting process too late but just happened to stumble upon a fishing charter place that also offers lodging...and would allow Maizy to stay. Worked out well. We weren't right on the lake but we were about 100 yards from the lake and we also were allowed a dock for the boat. Also great for us because it was right across the bay from Cedar Point - somewhere we also wanted to visit.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM OUR WEEK:
*East Harbor State Park Beach for some beach time
*YUMMY ice cream and short but enjoyable visit with my parents and Chad/his family
*Cedar Point - first big coasters for Gabi including Blue Streak, Iron Dragon, WildCats, Corkscrew, Mean Streak, Gemini, Magnum XL and Millenium. Fair rides and an awesome fireworks show to end the day
*Boys night out fishing bringing in lots of white bass for a fish fry
*More beach time, including shell collecting, volleyball, swimming and lounging at Gem Beach in Catawba.
*The "caviest" cave in the US - Seneca Caverns in Bellevue.
*Fishing as a family where we caught sheepshead, white bass, largemouth, smallmouth and catfish
*Souvenier shopping and yummy fudge at the little shops in Marblehead
*LOTS of tubing, sunbathing at the sand bar, skiing and boat rides

SOME FIRSTS INCLUDING:
*Biggest roller coaster for Gabi - Millenium Force!
*Catching Sheepshead fish
*Boys both learned to waterski - Trenton could slalom by vacation's end!
*Boated to Cedar Point (10 minute ride rather than 40 minute drive)!
*Seeing an endangered Lake Erie Water Snake
Pictures from whole vacation here.

Remembering Last Season

This video courtesy of my brother in law, Dave. Great job and thanks for sharing!

Bubbles

"Bubbles" is it's name and it (we haven't figured out the gender yet) is Gabi's new pet hamster. Trenton's friend's (Steven) girlfriend's hamster had babies (did you understand that? ha ha) and Steven asked us if we would want one when they got older. Since I knew Gabi had been wanting a small pet to take care of and I think she is of a responsible age to prove this, I decided to go ahead with it. So far, so good. She has done wonderful with it, although it is only day 3. Anyways, welcome little "Bubbles."

Christmas In July 2008

I think we have started a new tradition! We went to our former seasonal campground for the first time this year and camped with my brother and his family, and my parents got a deluxe cottage for Saturday night. Chad came up with the idea of having a $5 gift exchange and draw names for "Christmas in July." I had Reese, Ben had Addy, Trenton had Amber, Tyler had maw maw and Gabi had uncle Chad. On the flip side...Reese had me, mom had Ben, Chad had Trenton, Addy had Tyler and Presley had Gabi. All set up for a fun time!

We were able to leave around 2 pm on Friday and the evening was nice. We basically just set up, went for a walk, let the girls swim a bit, play on the playground and enjoyed the campfire.

Saturday we got up bright and early to visit the bears. We were pleasantly surprised that Ranger Smith had also shown up for pictures with the bears. We decided to try and take a few pictures of all the kids together since we actually had all three of our kids this weekend!! Far and few between anymore. So we got some cute pics of the cousins and headed back to the camper. It was funny because Trenton actually was telling Amber about a garter snake that him and his buddy found in a spot we were walking through, when Amber said, "and there it is!" And right before us was a pretty long garter snake!! We were startled, of course, because Maizy was going after it and the girls were just about walking on top of it. We each grabbed a little one and Ben went for the snake itself to show it to the kids. He ended up getting it too close to Maizy and she got a little too curious and the snake took a snap at Maizy's nose. Startled her to death!! Needless to say, Ben got rid of the snake. Around this time, my parents showed up and unfortunately the weather decided to be uncooperative and it started raining. Pretty much most of the day, but we dealt with it the best we could. Tyler and Trenton invited some friends up for the day so they also showed up right after lunch time. They were able to swim in the lake, play some rock band and get in a game of volleyball before heading off back home.

For dinner we had our favorite meal...bbq chicken, Amber's yummy pasta salad, corn on the cob, mom's great fried potatoes and biscuits. We also arranged for Boo Boo and Yogi to come the campsite around dinner time to bring Addy and my dad a small gift for their birthdays. We knew Addy would absolutely love this and she did! It was certainly worth the money to get a little personal attention! We headed to my parents cottage for the gift exchange. My mom even brought a Christmas tree! Some great gift ideas for everyone and we had fun watching every body open their gifts. I got a cute tote bag, some notecards/envelopes and a gift card to Starbucks (my favorite), Ben got a Nascar stocking cap and his own box of zingers (his favorite), Trenton and Tyler both got a nice collared shirt and Gabi got some super cute HSM things including a notebook, folder and pencils!!! After having cake on the porch, we decided to have a fire. It stopped raining just in time to start a fire, have a little contest (between Tyler and Chad - who could eat the most pudgey pies - Tyler won this with 4 or 5) and it started raining again. BUMMER! Luckily, my parents got a super nice deluxe cottage with 2 bedrooms...one with a bed and one with four bunks. The boys brought rock band and they set it up there on the tv and were able to stay overnight with them so we weren't feeling so crowded and wet.

And this morning we woke to more wetness. It looked like the weather wasn't gonna get any better but we stuck it out and decided to go for a few more golf cart rides, slowly start cleaning up our campsites, went for a couple of walks, ate a "leftover" lunch and by the time we took the kids swimming, the warm sun came out. Our last stop, of course, had to be getting some ice cream on the way out. We were glad it was a half way decent ending (weather wise) to a fun filled weekend-and more importantly, we are so glad we could all be together this year (unlike last year with Trenton gone). We are definitely looking forward to making this an annual event!!! Enjoy pictures here.

Training

Can you guess where I am for today and tomorrow???
Trainings for work...
In other news - Trenton and Tyler are home alone with dad tonight (they got home around 6 pm from Central Michigan camp) and Gabi is staying the night with maw maw and paw paw. Can't wait to get back home...even if it is only one night...
Watching So You Think You Can Dance...really liked Will and Katee's Rockin the Boat routine and their Imagine routine. Also loved loved Comfort and Twitch's hip hop routine tonight!
Thinking Katee will win the show personally (she is just an all around great dancer)...

Flindt Landing, Canada

So Ben has gone to Flindt Landing Camp (look closely at the websites photos...you may spot some of a young Trenton and a young Tyler in there!) in Canada three times now. His aunt Annie, uncle Jay and their son, David usually go along with three other people to make it a group of six. Two years ago (2006) Tyler was able to go and in 2004 Trenton was able to go with the group (along with Ben and Ben's dad). It was the time of their lives. They are allowed to bring 4 walleyes (VERY YUMMY) and 4 northern pike home as a limit. This year grandpa Honeycutt was able to go along with Annie, Jay, David, Ben, and Ben's dad. He had a great time and came home with good stories. They always see lots of animals...moose, loons, bears and bald Eagles. This time they came across a black bear right in the middle of the road on their way there. In fact, they had to honk to get it to move. Ben was also able to take the fish guts one evening to an island where the Eagles are and was able to catch a beautiful sight! Nine bald Eagles eating at the same time. He shared a story of how the alpha male eats first and no one interferes until he gives the go ahead. Pretty cool. Ben's biggest catches were the northern pike at 33 1/2 inches and a walleye at 21 inches. They left on the 4th of July (hit a deer on the way up also) and came home on Saturday. Needless to say, we were very glad to have daddy home with us. Here are pictures from his trip. Definitely a vacation to remember. Ben said it was funny how grandpa Honeycutt kept asking why they were still at the camp when they already had their limits to take home by Sunday! That man never stops. ; )
Gabi had two birthdays yesterday after Ben arrived home. That gave us the opportunity to catch a movie. Great movie! A little bloody and had quite a bit of language but it definitely kept my interest and had lots of twists. This morning the boys were off to team wrestling camp here until Wednesday. Luckily the school got a few of the parents to drive the group there and back so we won't have to worry about transportation.

Great Big God

Prairie Camp 2008

"There is no one like you, there has never ever been anyone like you - There is no one like our God!"
*God is like an emperor penguin. He died on the cross for us and like the emporer penguin who doesn't eat for a long period of time for his child, he still loved his baby...more than anything.
*We are God's most favorite creation. He made us with his hands - he breathed life in us.
*Whenever we need God, He is there.
*God never lets us go. He holds us in His hands.
Such simple yet such important things learned these past couple of days...
To me tonight, after getting her clothes in the washer and singing some prairie camp songs...
"mom, I love God! He is an awesome God!"
Warms my heart! Makes the camp priceless.

North Central Tournament

Just an update on the tournament in Illinois on Monday. I guess our Mishawaka team pretty much destroyed all the other teams at the tournament. The Nationally ranked team (St. Rita) had about half of their starter wrestlers and Trenton said the funny thing was none of them won their matches against Mishawaka. We beat Lowell (the good team in Michigan we will dual with this season) pretty well also. Mishawaka dominated the tournament. Tyler weighed in at 145 lbs. and St. Rita didn't have a 140 lb. wrestler. Mishawaka offered to borrow Tyler for the day so Tyler could get in plenty of matches. Although he went 1-3 he impressively beat a state placer (7th) from Illinois last year in OT 3-1! I heard it was a good match. Trenton pinned two of his opponents, teched another and beat the last one by 2 points. I guess the team and coaches were surprised at how well we beat the other teams. Anyways, anytime you have opportunity to wrestle and compete you should take it and we did. The boys came home tired - which I am always happy about as well. Tyler seems a little beat up...having trouble with his neck and ankle. Trenton got checked out yesterday for a repeat hernia...and so glad to report it was only an inflammed lymph node that should take care of itself.

Eat!

Trenton and Tyler are going to wrestle here at a one day tournament (coach's alumni college). Unfortunately, the weight classes are a little strange and the boys will both be going the same weight...147 lbs. This is the heaviest they have ever wrestled. Trenton cracked me up with a comment this morning...I was sitting in the living room and overheard
As Trenton was looking through refrigerator...
"I have to eat as much as possible."
Tyler replies with a wierd look on his face, "why?"
"Because I'm wrestling 147 lbs. tomorrow. Those guys are huge, dude, you have no idea. Just wait."
I had to chuckle. Poor Trenton. Just got off wrestling the other day...big kids. Trenton went 140 lbs. and his natural weight is about 144 lbs. Some of his opponents were cutting 15-20 lbs. so by the time it was time to wrestle you have Trenton - weighing 144 lbs. against his opponent - weighing about 155 lbs. That's a big difference.
Anyway...this one day tournament is supposed to be a good one. A nationally ranked team from Illinois will be competing. Should be interesting...Illinois actually puts out some great wrestlers, in fact, Illinois won the entire duals tournament in Oklahoma.

Junior Duals Summary

Trenton went 1-7 and team Indiana placed 12th at the National Junior Duals Championships in Oklahoma City. You can see information here under "National Junior Duals Championships."

Fourth of July All Nighter

Tyler and I pulled an all nighter last night. Yes, we had an awesome day visiting Chad, Amber and his kids here with my parents during the day. We dropped Ben off to depart for Canada around 11 am and we were off as well. We had a good time walking, swimming, riding in the golf cart, fishing and taking a pontoon ride. It was definitely a fun filled day. Pictures here. After finding out the team had come to a finish in Oklahoma we figured Trenton would arrive home in the wee hours of the morning. Unfortunately, they had to be picked up so I knew it would be a late one. My parents took Gabi home with them after dropping me off at home for the evening - around 8:30 pm ish, Tyler headed over to a friends house till midnight and I tried to catch some shut eye around 10pm. Tried is the key word. The neighbors were having a good time with fireworks and get togethers...who can blame them. It was just not a good evening to try and catch some zzzz's early. Tyler got home at 12 and I got up around 12:30 am to get around. Tyler swore he was up and ready to go so he would drive. With Garmin in the car, we headed out. Tyler did a great job and we made it to the campus of Purdue in 2 1/2 hours. After almost hitting a deer and a raccoon we were ready to get Trenton and head on home for our beds. Right as we pulled in to Purdue Trenton calls and says the bus is running late...it would be another hour and half. So there in the parking lot, Tyler and I layed back and tried to get some sleep. Tyler was out within seconds but for me...tried is the word again. 5 am was the arrival time, got Trenton, Tyler curled up in the back and we headed on our way home. Trenton helped me drive home and our travel time was shortened by an hour! Yes, we were in a hurry to find our pillows...
haven't pulled an all nighter like that in quite some time but we are home and we made it safely. Waiting to hear from Ben and crew for same report. Happy late Independence Day!
Note - firework pictures from the Summerfest a couple of weekends ago. It was a great display!!!

Consolation Round

Trenton suffered another two losses leaving his record 1-7 for the team duals.
Nick Fisher (California 1) over Trenton 6-0 and 5-3
Indiana defeated California 1 with a score of 32-31

Last match John Gochenour (New York) over Trenton 7-0 and 7-0
New York defeated Indiana 35-26

What an experience for Trenton. I know he feels very beat down and hates that he had a losing record but I have to say, almost every guy he wrestled is committed to a college already or is a 2x state champ or better. It's the best of the best at team duals and Trenton should be very honored that he got to be a part of this. Needless to say, we are very proud that he went to represent us as a family as well as our state of Indiana!

Jenny, Travis and Mackenzy were able to be there to watch and support our Trenton. So glad he was able to have a familiar face there in his corner. Jenny shared that she took video and pictures so I am anxious to see what she has and will share them on the blog when I get them.

Connecticut

Unfortunately Trenton took another loss in the first consolation round to Michael Frick of Connecticut 2-5 and 2-4. The team did well though winning 52-16. This means they will face off against California first thing tomorrow morning. I think Trenton is just beat down and tired at this point. We encouraged him to get rest and get refocused.

4th Place in Pool A

Round 3 against Florida
Trenton defeated Dillon Dennis 7-0 and 3-0
Indiana defeated Florida 51-16

Round 4 against Iowa
Mark Ballweg defeated Trenton 7-0 and 7-0
Iowa defeated Indiana 45-21

Round 5 against Wisconsin
Nick Hucke defeated Trenton 2-1 and pin
Wisconsin defeated Indiana 34-29

Indiana places 4th in pool A.
1. Iowa
2. Pennsylvania
3. Wisconsin
4. Indiana
5. Florida
6. Oklahoma 2

Consolations begin at 7 pm our time. Indiana vs. Connecticut first round.
Talked to Trenton. He sounds tired and a little down. Says the competition is amazing and almost every kid he has wrestled so far is 2x state champ or better! What an experience for him. GO INDIANA!!!!

Mackenzy

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Mackenzy Robin Lackey! We love you lots and hope you are enjoying your time with Trenton in Oklahoma City! Have a great day!!!
****Another note to Jenny...I need some updated photos of your kids!!! : )

Rounds 1 & 2

An update on Trenton in Oklahoma...
Round 1 against Oklahoma
Trenton lost to Corey Duncan by decision 3-3 and 3-4
Team Indiana beats Oklahoma 64-5

Round 2 against Pennsylvania
Trenton lost to Jordan Oliver by tech fall 0-9 and 0-7
Team Indiana loses to Oklahoma 14-40

On a sidenote...Jordan Oliver of Pennsylvania is a 4x state champ, 2x National champ in Fargo, been featured in Sports Illustrated and has a full ride to Oklahoma! Oh my! Welcome to Junior National Duals!!!!! Googled him and found this.
Trenton is feeling pretty good. Aunt Jenny, Travis and Mackenzy made it there to see his second match and he told Jenny that Oliver was probably the best kid he has ever wrestled to this day. Trenton was upset with himself that he lost his first match and said he should have won it. He said he pooped out...not like him to get tired. He is finished for today so tomorrow brings a new light. Indiana going into tomorrow with a 1-1 record...GO INDIANA!

A Kid Forever

Gabi yesterday to me, "I don't want to grow up, mommy"

I asked, "why not?" "Because I want to stay a kid forever!"

Destinations

We made all kinds of destinations yesterday and this morning...
Tyler rode along with grandpa yesterday to meet grandma Honeycutt, Uncle Bob and Aunt Boots half way (Lexington, KY) to get grandpa Honeycutt. He will be going with the group to Canada next week. Yes, an 83 year old man going on a fishing trip to Canada. You have to understand this man, though...he is non stop and we love him to death! Anyways, they made it back home about 6 pm or so last evening so we were able to see him. Although he hated to leave home and all the work he has there (feeding and caring for all his animals, etc) he is looking forward to the week in Canada. It will be a new experience for him.
Trenton made it to Oklahoma City last night about 9:30 pm. Left at 8 am so it ended up being a 13 1/2 hour drive. He said it was lots better compared to the 22 hour trip to Fargo. I am anxious to hear about the city. He also said the Freestyle team must go and watch the Greco team so he will be traveling to and from the wrestling premises for the next few days. Not sure about how much free time he will actually have.
And then there is me...I made my "feeling better" destination! Yes, I can finally breathe from my nose! I didn't feel the best all weekend and it was frustrating because I couldn't breathe. Well, yesterday my sinuses cleared and I could smell the fresh air again! And this morning...after not being able to run Wednesday and Friday of last week...this morning's run felt good. It was rough, don't get me wrong. After getting my right side cramp at 15 minutes into the run I thought I couldn't make it but I did. I might have been just a tad slower but I was NOT going to regress from all my hard work. I finished that 30 minutes and it felt good. Happy Monday!

Travis

Happy Birthday to my nephew, Travis! He turned 13 today!!! Please know we love you and miss you bud! Have a great day!!!!
**** Note to Jenny - I am in need of some updated photos of Travis! It's been way too long since we have seen you : (

2008 Junior Duals

Trenton left about 15 minutes ago to be dropped off at Purdue University for Junior Duals Camp and will leave from Purdue on Sunday morning for Oklahoma City Junior Duals. He will be representing the great state of Indiana at 140 lbs. You can actually track his progress by going into the actual tournament (Junior Freestyle Duals) on July 1st here. It's actually pretty cool because you can have track wrestling text or email you individual or team results (for a fee of course). Since he is only wrestling for the freestyle team he will have a few days in Oklahoma City to relax and enjoy the Greco part of it. Trenton will arrive in Oklahoma on Sunday night but will not actually wrestle until Wednesday at 6 pm or so. Like I said before, unlike Fargo, Trenton will be wrestling in a team format. He will be wrestling at the Freede Wellness Center (see picture below) at Oklahoma City University and his schedule is as follows:
  • Friday, June 27th 2008
4 - 5:00 p.m. Check into Camp-Blake Wrestling Room located in Lambert Field House on the campus of Purdue University.
    5:30 - 7:30 p.m. Introductions & Practice for Both Groups (Greco & Freestyle)
    8:00 p.m. Dinner
    9:00 - 11:00 p.m. Movie
    11:30 p.m. Lights Out
  • Saturday, June 28th 2008
    8:30 a.m. Breakfast
    9:30 - 11:30 a.m. Practice
    12:00 p.m. Lunch
    2:00 - 4:00 p.m. Practice

Pom Camp 2008

If for some reason the sound doesn't work...you can click here to go to it on youtube.

Sick

So I have been spoiled by a good doctor who will call in antibiotics for me quite a bit...as long as I have seen him within a period of time. I was looking forward to that...because of Gabi's camp, things I had to get done, etc. Well, I call and the office is closed due to a computer training class. I call the backup office and the doctor does not call in antiobiotics unless being seen and the only appointment she has is 4:45 pm. I wasn't going to wait that long! So, disappointed I have Tyler drive me to Urgent Care around 9:30 am. By this time...I am just feeling terrible. I had a throat swab and the doctor said it came up positive for Strep within seconds so I must have it pretty bad. Incidently, I also have a sinus infection. The good thing...I got the antiobiotics! The bad thing, it was a prescription and I had to wait for 20 minutes at Meijer to get them. It felt like an eternity. My loving hubby decided to come home to take Gabi to and from camp so I could rest and that's indeed what I did. The rest of the day and all night...in bed. Relaxing and sleeping. Didn't have the best night but hopefully today will start the uphill process of getting better. Neck is sore, throat is sore, headache and stuffy nose still. I am hoping by being up and around today, I will feel a little better. We'll see. Strep throat is nooooo fun! : (

Necklace

I have been getting alot of "what is that on your necklace?" ... so here it is...I saw the necklace and had to have it. It fit my life perfectly right now.

Some verses I have been leaning on lately...
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. (Proverbs 3:5-6)
The Lord will work out his plans for my life—for your faithful love, O Lord, endures forever. (Psalm 138:8)

On a bad note...not feeling well today. Think it may be strep throat. Didn't sleep a wink last night (terrible sore throat, stuffy nose, headache) so I will probably call the doctor this morning - hopefully to get an antibiotic called in for me. First scheduled morning since here I am skipping out on my run and I feel guilty for it, but I know it would only make me feel worse.

BFF

I heard Gabi say more than once last night..."we're best friends forever, right, Emma?"

Had a show complete with karoake, some keyboard tunes, a little dancing and lots of giggles; played on the Slip n Slide; rode on scooters and played on the swingset; watched this before falling asleep (courtesy of our neighbor who got in on DVD in Guatemala way before it comes out on DVD here); ate yummy cinnamon rolls for breakfast; and finished off the day at Pom Camp -(more on that one to come...) - it was "crazy day" today. Fun times!

Baby Birds

Last year around this time we thought we would have baby mourning doves but this happened. This year they hatched and they are cool to watch and keep tabs on. Interesting to read about them and their nesting habits, etc. Here is a pic of them just today...We were excited because lately all we have been having are baby sparrows! In fact, we witnessed some baby house sparrows that had tried their luck at leaving the nest. Both parents were not very happy with that idea considering we were all outside last night with Maizy very curious to know what was going on. They were cute though. Got some cute pics...just another reminder we will probably be having one leaving our nest soon as well : ( I won't be taking it quite as well as these little birds.

Craving

Can I say I caught the last end of Rachael Ray's show yesterday, watched her make this, thought it looked delich and headed to the store for the ingredients???? It was YUMMY and easy too! Even Gabi liked it!

Iowa

So we were supposed to be getting ready to go on a trip with the wrestling team...a high school nationals event. One that we missed last year to spend some quality time with Gabi. Had coolers packed with LOTS of food, clothes ready to be put into the suitcases, had trailer ready to be pulled with all the wrestlers' gear....
Instead....we are unpacking the coolers and finding places for the extra snack foods, putting our clothes back in the closets, taking the trailer back to Aunt Annie and working on getting hotel refunds via some long phone conversations...and I do mean long.

Iowa trip cancelled because of the flooding : (

Father's Day Camping

The annual "Father's Day Get Together" at my parents' house was put off this year...at least for my brother and his family, us and my parents. We opted to go camping together. This is the second year that Chad and Amber have had their camper and so they want to put it to good use as much as possible. It just so happened between our two schedules this is one weekend that we had that we could go together. We decided on somewhere we had never beed to... Jellystone in Grand Haven, Michigan. Ben and I invited my parents to stay in our camper since we would be less Tyler this weekend (had football camp to attend). They decided to try a cabin instead, but we would still be able to be together at the campground. We ran into some snags with the rain and basically figuring out the staff didn't have a clue there, but other than that...not a bad weekend. Rained Friday afternoon while setting up but we were able to sit around the fire. Saturday we enjoyed the Fun Zone at the campground...complete with bumperboats, mini golf and go carts. The kids LOVED it (and the big kids too). We swam at the pool and made our way into Grand Haven to the beach. Trenton and my parents went in the afternoon while Presley and Addy were napping to see if the beach was worth the visit. They came back with rave reviews. We got to the beach around 7:30 pm or so...just as a storm started to blow in...I was so looking forward to getting some good pictures! But with winds gusting, sand blowing and lightening every now and then we made it a very quick visit. Wish we could have visited longer. At least we know this is definitely someplace we would love to go to again. Rained out our fire that evening...we were all pooped anyways, so we turned in about 10:30 pm. Got up on Father's Day, presented gifts, ate breakfast, went on a walk and started to tear down by 11 am. Made some lunch complete with lots of leftovers and we were on our way back home. It was a nice visit...someplace we would like to go back to...at least the city and beach, of course. Campground could have used some fixing up in all areas, but we had a good time being together.

Want to wish my dad and father in law a very Happy Father's Day! They certainly deserve it.
And Ben...well, he's just the best daddy in the world! We love you!!!!!!
Pictures from our weekend here.

Cleaning Bug

So the cleaning bug bit me today...got groceries for our camping trip this weekend, came home and decided it had been too long since I shampooed my carpets. So amidst, getting groceries together for the camper, getting together the necessities for Tyler's football camp this weekend, washing all the mattress pads on the beds, changing sheets on them, dusting and sweeping, I got the carpets shampooed also. Shew!!! Now I am off to a wrestling meeting.......

Oklahoma City

Because Trenton placed third at the State tournament in freestyle, he qualifed to go to Fargo, ND again this year. We got all our letters out to businesses and family asking for monetary support again and upon some investigation and a call from the Purdue coach we realized Trenton would fit nicely into the Junior National Duals Championships in Oklahoma City. Unlike Fargo (in which four kids in each weight class are taken), this team is made up of one wrestler per weight class. It is supposed to be the first place State winner in each weight class. In the cases where the first place winner is unable to attend, the Coach taking the team (Purdue coach) intensifies his search and pursues the 2nd and 3rd place winners. In Trenton's case, the 2nd placer was also unable to go which left Trenton the opportunity. The opportunity of a lifetime. Competing with the best of the best. The Indiana team. Unlike Fargo, this team competes together in a duals format. In Fargo, it's every man for himself, representing Indiana of course. Also in Fargo once a wrestler loses twice, they are finished for the tournament. In Oklahoma City Trenton will be guaranteed 6+ matches. More mat time with great competition. Trenton is very honored he is able to go. We will keep everyone posted as to his accomplishments there. If you would like to make a donation on Trenton's behalf please send to ISWA, Inc., c/o Tom Erikson-Team Leader, 3471 Ferdinand Court, West Lafayette, IN 47906. Be sure to write Trenton's name on your donation check. Trenton's schedule looks like this...
Friday, June 27 - Sunday, June 29 Camp for the team at Purdue University
Sunday, June 29 - Leave for and arrive in Oklahoma City
Tuesday, July 1 - Trenton's team will register for freestyle
Wednesday, July 2 - Freestyle weigh ins and Freestyle session 1
Thursday, July 3 - Freestyle sessions 2, 3 and 4
Friday, July 4 - Freestyle session 5 (if necessary), Consolation, Red and Blue Rounds, Placement and Awards and Depart from Oklahoma City
Saturday, July 5 - Trenton arrives home

Shopping Spree and Such

So Gabi and I finally got to go on a shopping spree with her birthday money from maw maw and paw paw. Armed with the catalog and a 15% off coupon we were ready to go! I got up this morning, ran my 30 minutes-yes, I am still doing it three times a week ; ) - made some yummy cinnamon rolls for Tyler and Gabi, showered and headed out. Dropped Tyler at Marissa's house for a little while and Gabi and I drove here. Picked out some really cute things...a bandeau top and knit shorts to match (page 8-9 of this magazine), the same exact swim suit on page 18 of the same magazine (blue and white striped), and a cute hooded short sleeve red and white striped short sleeve shirt. Gabi looked adorable trying everything on. Can I say she loves that store! I could really go crazy in there if I wasn't careful. Expensive, but some cute clothes! Anyways, walked away with all that and a little ring for under the $60 she had from her birthday. Saved 15% too!
After the shopping spree, took Tyler to the doctor to discuss getting his plates and screws out of his leg...still haven't decided when and if we will do this. Dr. suggests it, just because he is young and another trauma to that area would be a mess complete with metal, etc. but he did say Tyler could be okay with it in his leg also. A matter of personal preference. The hard part is choosing a time to do it. He will have to be careful for about 3-4 weeks after surgery and unfortunately, he just doesn't have that amount of time. Tyler has already started football...working on qb as a matter of fact...def looking forward to that!
Trenton has been working at the golf course again this year. Started Saturday. Loving the independence and knowing he is doing something for himself. Responsibility. We are proud of him. SATs on Saturday.

Favorite Spring Break Pic

Yucky, rainy day today and I have been going through pictures...namely to get blown up and ready to place strategically in our new home eventually and I thought I would share a couple of my favorite from North Carolina over Spring Break. I really like the one with the chairs...probably my favorite at this point.

Hold Your Tongue

Yesterday morning before going to church we were discussing the way we talk to each other and if we don't have something nice to say, we probably shouldn't say it...mainly between the kids. This is extremely important with summer here and the kids home together all day long. Gabi pipes up and says, "my teacher said if you feel like you have to say something that isn't nice, you should hold your tongue..." and she proceeded to stick her tongue out, grab it with her fingers and started to talk, "like this." Ben and I had to smile and of course, Tyler went into the explanation of how "holding your tongue" is an actual expression, not an action. Out of the mouths of babes.....(ha ha)
